The design brief was to redesign the Inflight Catering Training College crew catering facilities, front of house survey systems, to redesign the floor area within the constraints of the existing floor area.
On consulting with the SVP Inflight Catering along with the close team members, a wish list of items to be incorporated within the area and the counters was established. It was imperative to bring innovative design and state of the art manufacturing to the design intent. With modern and efficient workings both internally and externally.
The specification was then introduced with regards to the finishes, material quality, welding, polished mirror stainless steel finishes. Along with Granite tops and laminated front and end panels. With a and internal systems to have a fully integrated countering services system, without the need for multiple connections, all services would be run within the counters themselves from MCB panels to the respective connections for both the countertop equipment and the built in heated hot cupboards, quarts gantries, refrigerated, multi-tier displays, refrigerated cupboards, contact cool wells as well as fan cooled dowl wells.
The layout was then established within the constraints of the existing area, including incorporating service risers within the counters, because the floor slab could not be cut in anyway and utilizing existing service drain positions.
The design incorporated 6 food service counters, one being an elliptical central island unit, having various hot, cold, ambient areas as well as having coffee machines, bottle coolers for storage under.
The remaining counters were semi assisted service counters, with hot, cold display units as well as heated and chilled grab and go multi-tiered display unit. All being finished in mirror polish, granite tops and laminated panels, with the tray runners inset into the granite tops.
Upon completing the counter designs, detailed specifications and manufacturing drawings were produced for the purpose of issuing for tender the counter manufacturing.
The project was tender and awarded to the manufacturer, our role then changed to Project management and implementation. This was performed by visiting the factory, checking the specification and the parameters of the construction and build material and quality. As well as coordinating the granite and laminated finishes and sizes, from another contractor.
Once completed within the factory it was then broken down, ready for collection and transportation from the UK to UAE.
Once the counters arrived onsite the installation took place over a series of night workings due to the facility being unable to close during working hours.
Zones were created, existing counters removed, and new counters installed. On each morning, hording was created to separate the working areas from the operation each day. So the facility could be put back into operation each morning.
The foodservice counters were then reassembled at the jobsite, the granite and laminated panels fitted, all countertop equipment fully installed tested and commissioned.
The project was then handed over to our client.
